The cloud forecast looked promising the night before, so I set my alarm early and headed down to Kiama on the NSW South Coast for sunrise. The sky didn’t disappoint as these medium-altitude clouds lit up with warm hues at dawn. I created this composition using the basalt rock spires centred in the frame, with an incoming wave in the foreground set against the morning sky in the background. A gap in the clouds can be seen in the distance on the horizon, which is usually a crucial element for producing colourful sunrises.
