Canola field in full bloom, NSW Australia.
Canola Field
2020

I shot this image during an early spring canola photography workshop led by Ray Jennings. Ray gave me a great tip: wait for some light to appear over my composition. I patiently waited, and a few moments later as the clouds moved, some dappled light was cast over the scene, adding much needed contrast and texture to the field. One of the clouds in the sky appears darker and more ominous than the others. Between the dark cloud, the birds gliding in the sky below it, and the slight tilt of the tree towards the left, I positioned the tree slightly to the right of the frame to achieve a natural balance.
